Powerlines (launch under the powerlines) is a few miles up the road on Sherman Island Road (Sherman Island launch spot is at the end of the road). More than sufficient parking, easy sandbagged access and overnight camping makes this a very popular spot on the river. Traffic moves quickly along this section of the levee so keep your gear well clear of the road. Listen to the Powerlines, they will tell you how windy it is. A hum means 4.7-5.0, and when you hear a steady higher pitched whine that sounds like a bad wheel bearing, it's 4.2. Please contact us, if you would like to provide further details for this site. Wind- Water- Rig&LaunchSandbagged access. WarningsThere is no easy exit downwind from the Power Lines, so be careful when sailing on a flood tide. Tuesday, 04 January 2011
The shallows , 100 yds x 60 yds, provide the perfect place for learning to waterstart, while just beyond lies some of the best winds and swells on the river. Please contact us, if you would like to provide further details for this site. Wind- Water- Rig&LaunchComprised of a small parking area in front and a larger parking area in the rear, this area is rightfully now one of the most popular sailing sites. There is a $4.00 daily charge for entry into the park. WarningsJust downwind from the launch is a row of submerged rocks that form a break for the beach. These rocks are usually marked by masts w/flags, but it's best to talk to other sailors so that you don't lose your fin or dignity. Tuesday, 04 January 2011
For less confident sailors, Team Rio beach has on-shore winds and weak current near shore. A quick sail upwind will find you alone on large rolling swells. Please contact us, if you would like to provide further details for this site. Wind- Water- Rig&LaunchThis rear access of Sacramento County Park provides much more parking and some rigging areas, but also requires a longer walk down a sandy path to a sandy beach entry.
