LATEST NEWS - RHINE RIVER

Biebesheim is a great southwest to west alternative to Budenheim. Usually a nice & clean river swell builds quickly here. Provided that the wind angle fits, you can enjoy sailing downwind/upriver for about 2-3 kilometers.

Wind

Direction is limited here to southwest to west. Dense tree-lines on both sites of the river are channeling and boosting the wind.

Water

Shallow water near the launch side due to sandbanks. Deep from the middle of the river on to the waterway and beyond.Swell reaches 3 - 6 foot (1-2 meter) in the channel. It's a  perfect site for high jumps.

Rig&Launch

Rig and launch in front of the campsite.

Warnings

Sandbank in front of the campsite. Required River level > 1,5meters, otherwise it gets to shallow to sail.Watch out for the heavy barge traffic and keep your distance to it !

Oestrich-Winkel is typical bump&jump site with some nice river swell in the middle section. It is a Rhine River site with lots of heavy water traffic caused by a local ferry boat which calls frequently at the nearby pier and the normal up-&downstream traffic.

Wind

works best in a west-south west wind pattern.

Water

This is a good bump and jump location, with nive ramps in the middle. Current accelerates at the waterside caused by crossing cargo ships.

Rig&Launch

Park your car directly at the B42 about 1km downstream from the ferry dockplaces at the riverside. Easy water access and launch point, due to the fact, that you are outside of the waterway.

Warnings

Watch out for the crossing ferry boat which runs from Ingelheim to Östrich-Winkel and vice versa and the standard cargo ship traffic. Generally watch out for the barge lane which runs near the launch site.
