www.river-rippers.net the global network for river windsurfers
Not everyone lives near an ocean or a lake, so why not going for Windsurfing on a nearby river?
There are maybe hundreds of rivers worldwide, a few of them have already been discovered by windsurfers and are offering perfect conditions.
Depending on the wind force and the rivers characteristics, you will find everything from flat-water, to bump & jump and wavelike sailing conditions.
The current is part of what makes Windsurfing on a river so great. With the current driving you down the river and the wind pushing you up the river, you can sail downwind all the time.
Especially for freestyle windsurfers, rivers are a perfect playground to improve their skills!
We are always on the lookout for great shots, cool stories and good people, so let's make this site a reality...

Has the time come? The time has truly come with the premiere viewing of Andre Paskowski’s latest DVD labelled Four Dimensions at the Kinowelt theatre in Westerland, Sylt/Germany. The 34-minute movie lives up to its title with never before seen footage and innovative camera angles. The windsurfing on this DVD seems out of this world. Swedish video editor and director Peter Svensson put together a fine mix of the craziest windsurfing action, striking scenery, and humour.
A well mixed, world-class soundtrack provides the perfect backdrop for the world’s best new-school sailors as they travel to locations that have never been shot in this way before. Victor Fernandez flies high over Pozo, Gran Canaria; Gollito Estredo stomps newly invented power freestyle moves in Egypt and Fuerteventura while Marcilio Browne takes modern wave riding to a whole new level in Cape Verde and Maui. The film's producer Andre Paskowski also throws down some moves while exploring newly flooded lagoons in Brazil with Gollito.
This video gives a fresh perspective on the possibilities of windsurfing today and leaves you with the urge to do nothing else but hit your local sailing spot and shred with your buddies.

Pierre Garambois captured this clip during a sweet freestyle session on the RhĂ´ne River in France.

Ripper of the month - September 09
In our ripper of the month section we are frequently introducing members of our river windsurfing community. This month it's Sean Aiken who lives in Hood River/Oregon, the meka of River Windsurfing. Sean is a well know Gorge sailor who rips the Gorge since decades. He participated at several Gorge windsurfing competitions and won the 2000 Gorge Games.
In an interview he tells a bit about his passion for the sport and how he got into it.
"Well I've sort of lived most of my life around windsurfing. I've spent 22 summers in the Gorge and 11 winters on Maui. I've been surrounded by great sailors and great conditions not to mention that I just love to windsurf."

2009 Windsurfing the Gorge

On August 16th 2009, windsurfers all over the world are invited to head down the beach and introduce a friend or two to windsurfing. Your best mate, your girlfriend, your son, your daughter, your grandpa or your pet – share windsurfing with them on WWD 2009.
Starboard’s Brand Manager Tiesda You, explains the idea: "More than 80% of active windsurfers today are windsurfing because their dad or a friend taught them. Growing windsurfing is as simple as that. So on the 16th of August, we’d like to invite the hundreds of thousands of windsurfers all over the world to introduce windsurfing to friends and family. It’s simple virus theory: one cell becomes two, two becomes four, four becomes eight, and so on. It really is up to us to introduce windsurfing to those around us, and this is what WWD is all about."
See you all on the beach on WWD! August 16th, 2009.
